The police have claimed that Gaganpreet Makkad was driving her car at around 100 kmph when she hit the victim.

A Delhi court has taken cognisance of the chargesheet filed in the accident case of Navjot Singh, a 52-year-old employee of the Finance Ministry, who was run over by a speeding luxury car near Dhaula Kuan last September.
Delhi Police told Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg that the victim was deliberately taken to a distant hospital, which delayed his treatment “during the golden hours of trauma care”.
The accident occurred at 1.30 a.m. on September 14. The police claimed that the accused, Gaganpreet Makkad, left for the hospital with the victim at 1.37 a.m. and reached there at 2.15 a.m.
The police also alleged that the accident took place due to the fault of Ms. Makkad, who was at the driving wheel. It was alleged that she was driving the car around 100-110 kmph.
The vehicle crashed into a metro pillar near the Delhi Cantonment metro station on Ring Road, overturned, and rammed into the motorcycle of the Finance Ministry employee, who died in the crash while his wife, Sandeep Kaur, suffered grievous injuries.
Court issues summons
The police submitted that the accused has been charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, endangering life or personal safety of others, and causing disappearance of evidence. Considering the submissions of the Investigating Officer, the court said that prima facie the chargesheet disclosed the commission of offences.
“I take cognisance of the offence,” the magistrate said. The court then issued a summons to the accused and posted the matter for further hearing on February 2.
